Built by International Speedway Corporation, Chicagoland is 45 miles southwest of The Loop and downtown Chicago in the suburban city of Joliet. The track falls somewhere between being a traditional trioval and a diamond-shaped oval. The $130 million speedway brought a return by NASCAR to the area. Always a hotbed for various types of racing, Chicago hosted a pair of NASCAR events in 1956-57 at massive Soldier Field, along the lakefront in downtown Chicago.
