How long have you been a fanSince around 1983. That's about as far back as I can remember any way.
How did your interest in racing startMy father would take my brothers and I to local dirt tracks in Texas where I grew up. If mom wasn't looking, then we were at the track. She didn't completely agree with him taking three little kids to the races, but I'm glad she didn't stop him. I plan on doing the same for my two little ones.
Who was your first favorite driverRichard Petty. I grew up watching the king. He stopped winning not long after I started watching, but that never mattered to me. He was and always will be the coolest driver ever.
Who is your current favorite driverJimmie, who else? I went a long time after the king retired without a favorite. Then Jimmie came along and caught my attention. I was hooked by the end of his second season. Now look where we are. After three consecutive cup titles, I'll concede that I made a wise choice. My wife just wishes that I would quit hemorrhaging money on his collectables.
If you had three hours to spend with your favorite driver, what would you doAfter careful consideration, I would have to say a round of golf. I'm not that great at it, but I bet it would be a riot. Jimmie and I would probably be drunk before the 9th hole. Then we would have to be removed from the course by the 18th hole for cart surfing.
What is your most memorable moment in racingIt would have to be the 1992 Hooter's 500 at Atlanta. This was Petty's last race. That alone would have made it special, but it got better. This was the seasons final race. There were six drivers going for the title. Special K won the championship by 10 points over Awesome Bill. You just can't make this stuff up.
How many races do you attend each yearNone since they closed down Pikes Peak Int. Raceway. I attended the last Busch/Nationwide series race before ISC bought it and shut it down. Maybe some day I'll find time to go to a cup race.
What is your favorite trackI would have to say Bristol. I know it's not a Jimmie friendly track, but it reminds me of dirt track racing. There is no better racing than 1/2 mile racing. I just wish they hadn't repaved it in 07. It will be back to normal before too long.
If you worked in racing, what job would you doI would love to do PR for a race driver. I've always been good at sales and advertising, which is just a heart beat away from public relations. So if you're reading this Jimmie, give me a call.
If you were in charge of NASCAR, what would you changeI would encourage track owners to lower ticket pricing. With market instability and economic turndown, we need to revitalize the fan base to help secure and insulate our sport. That is why I would also motivate teams to lower pricing on merchandise and apparel. As long as there are people filling the stands, there will be money to be made.
