Jimmie Johnson NASCAR Busch Series No. 48 Lowe's / Kobalt Tools Chevrolet California Preview
Aug. 31, 2005

JIMMIE JOHNSON COMPETING IN TWO NASCAR SERIES THIS WEEKEND: Jimmie Johnson will pull double duty this weekend, competing in two NASCAR series in his home state of California. In addition to his regular duties behind the wheel of the No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet in the NEXTEL Cup Series, Johnson will drive the No. 48 Lowe's / Kobalt Tools Chevrolet in Saturday's Busch race at California Speedway.

Saturday marks the first race where Chad Walter will be the crew chief for Johnson's Busch car.

This will be Johnson's seventh Busch Series start of 2005. In addition to driving five scheduled races in the No. 48 Lowe's/ Kobalt Tools Chevrolet this season, Johnson also drove the No. 5 Lowe's Chevrolet in three Busch Series events.

At Darlington Raceway in May, Johnson wheeled the No. 5 to his first career Busch Series pole position, and posted a top-five finish in the No. 5 at Dover International Speedway in June. Johnson's best finish in the No. 48 Busch Series entry this season was a third-place result at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March.

Johnson's next start in the No. 48 Busch Series entry is scheduled for Lowe's Motor Speedway in October.

Johnson's friend Adrian Fernandez will make his oval track debut Saturday in the No. 5 Lowe's Hitachi Power Tools Chevrolet.

Q&A WITH DRIVER JIMMIE JOHNSON

Racing in Saturday's Busch Race: "I'm really looking forward to racing two races this weekend in my home state and on a track where I won my first Cup race. We've had a mixed season in the Busch car. We have had some good races and not so good races. Chad Walter will be my crew chief on Saturday while my Nextel Cup Crew Chief Chad Knaus can concentrate on the Cup car. I think it will be the best of both worlds. I know that we will be in good shape. I'm really excited for the Busch race. I think driving a Busch car around Fontana will be very fun because you can be really aggressive with it."

Racing With Adrian Fernandez on Saturday: "We've been close friends and have known each other for a long time. I can't wait to be door-to-door with him. It' should be a lot of fun."

THIS WEEK'S CHASSIS: HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS CHASSIS NO. 327- Chassis No. 327 is new to the Hendrick Motorsports stable this season. Jimmie Johnson drove this chassis to a fifth-place finish at Dover International Speedway in June.
