Established a century ago, Indianapolis Motor Speedway has long been an icon of motorsports excellence. Once paved entirely of bricks, the mammoth complex closed during World War II. It reopened after the war, and asphalt replaced the bricks, however, the track's nickname “The Brickyard” remained. A strip of the original bricks remains at the start-finish line and is kissed by the winning NASCAR team as part of the victory lane ceremonies.
