RECAP: After qualifying second for the 300-mile event in New Hampshire, Jimmie Johnson and the No. 48 team’s day was short-lived.
Johnson reported a flat left rear tire on lap seven. The team pitted for left side tires and lost two laps on pit road. When Johnson went back out onto the track, a left rear tire exploded on lap 11 ending the six-time champion’s day. Crew chief Chad Knaus and the team couldn’t repair the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet SS forcing the team to retire from the event and forced a 42nd place finish.
“Unfortunately, two tires went flat in a matter of laps It’s definitely a setback for this Lowe’s team. We had a good test up here. We had a very fast car. It would have been nice to get a race in here before we come back for the second one, so it’s definitely a setback missing out on track time and being out this early. We’ll get them in Indy.”
